This simple cat toy is super-easy to crochet.  I recently made one for my 14-year-old granddaughter to use with her three cats, and she was delighted.  She actually broke a smile when she saw it.  The kitties were interested, too, as she pulled it across the floor, and especially liked watching it jump around across the rug.  The pattern requires just a small amount of yard, so you can use up some of your remnants.

materials
●G crochet hook
●worsted weight/4-ply yarn
●polyester fiber fill (or cotton balls, or kitty fur)
●catnip and/or bell(s), optional
●yarn needle for weaving in ends

directions

round 1:  Chain 2.  6 single crochet in first chain.
round 2:  2 single crochet in each single crochet around (12 stitches)
round 3:  *2 single crochet in next stitch, single crochet in next stitch, repeat from * around (18 stitches)
round 4:  *2 single crochet in next stitch, single crochet in each of next 2 stitches, repeat from * around  (24 stitches)
round 5:  *2 single crochet in next stitch, single crochet in each of next 3 stitches, repeat from * around (30 stitches)
round 6:  *2 single crochet in next stitch, single crochet in each of next 4 stitches, repeat from * around (36 stitches)
Fold circle in half, single crochet the edges together.  At half way point, stuff.

make ears:  Continue on with 6 more single crochets around the edge to the 2/3 point, then chain 4, single crochet in each of the 4 chains, and continue on to the end of the half circle.
make tail:  Continue with a chain 10 to 20 for tail and end off by pulling yarn through last chain.  Make the tail long if you want to dangle it in front of your kitty, short if you plan just to toss it to the kitty.
